the alarm clock
kills you
it’s all you ever wanted
all you ever feared
the sun
and the moon
and how small
we all are
as you close
your eyes at night
curtains pulled
away
and i hear
the familiar buzz
begging to be heard
symphonies of birds
barks and choirs
the shower running
loose change on the bedstand
the smell of shaving cream
the hum of the car
familiar rumble
of the garage door.
i still wait to
hear it every morning
as the batteries lie forgotten
in the bottom drawer
clock lost somewhere
under the bed
of ashy pictures
and soot figures.
so we leave it be.
